So far, we’ve covered death/dark metal, hip hop, dreamy pop acts and more death/dark metal at Psycho Las Vegas. Want more diversity? How about the ethereal folk sounds of American singer/songwriter Marissa Nadler? That’s right, folk music. Psycho Las Vegas had something for just about everyone.

Marissa Nadler released her first official album, ‘Ballads of Living and Dying’ on Eclipse Records in January 2004 and followed that up with ‘The Saga of Mayflower May’ in July 2005. She has released eight additional albums since then with the excellent ‘Instead of Dreaming’ on Sacred Bones Records release in the spring of last year.

The Boston Globe stated, “She has a voice that, in mythological times, could have lured men to their deaths at sea, an intoxicating soprano drenched in gauzy reverb that hits bell-clear heights, lingers, and tapers off like rings of smoke”. While Pitchfork added, “Like black metal, her songs are atmospheric, austere, and engulfing.”

Nadler, who overcame paralyzing stage fright early in her career, put on a performance that was a most welcome deviation from what is mostly a hard rock/heavy metal music festival. I was very happy to have caught her set. Check her out at a city near you…
