This past weekend I paid a visit to annual Florida Renaissance Festival, which is celebrating its 32nd year. The festival, which attracts over 100,000 annual attendees, is a photographer’s dream. But there’s one particular attraction of the festival that I make sure I capture – Italy’s Rota Temporis.

Rota Temporis are a “Heavy Medieval” steampunk outfit founded in 2007. They are based in the province of L’Aquila in central Italy, about 140 kilometers west of Rome, with members coming from the city of Sulmona and neighboring towns like Pacentro.

Their live shows (from “Italia’s Got Talent” to the Kaltenberg Knights Tournament, one of Europe’s most important medievel festivals) feature the use of bagpipes and percussion as well as clothing (created by the band members themselves) inspired by traditional folklore, particularly Celtic-like skirts.

To sum things up, they kicked ass all over the joint at this year’s Florida Renaissance Festival. They’re at the festival until it closes the weekend of March 24 – don’t miss them…
