Monsieur Periné: Live at the Miami Beach Bandshell
I returned to the historic Miami Beach Bandshell this past weekend to photograph Monsieur Periné, a dynamic Bogotá-based musical ensemble from Colombia. Their unique and eclectic approach, that blends genres such as jazz, swing and pop with Latin American sounds such as salsa, cumbia and bolero, has gained them an international following since launching their first album, “Hecho a Mano” in 2012.

“Nuestra Canción”, the opening track on the second Monsieur Periné album titled “Caja de Música”, led to the band being named the Best New Artist (and nominated for Album of the Year) during the 2015 Latin Grammy Awards and Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album during the 2016 Grammys.
Their third record “Encanto Tropical” in 2018 that also received Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award nominations. Album single “Bailar Contigo” also received Latin Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Named the “Best Live Music Venue” in 2023 by Miami New Times’ Best of Miami, the Miami Beach Bandshell is an iconic example of MiMo (mid-century Miami Modern) architecture, in the heart of the MiMo Historic District in the city’s North Beach neighborhood. Managed by the Rhythm Foundation for the City of Miami Beach since 2015, the open-air venue now hosts 120+ events each season.
