The best job I ever had? Working at Tower Records on West 4th and Broadway for a year (1992-1993). As a total music nerd, it was my dream job. It was there that I became an even bigger music nerd discovering bands like Superchunk, The Swirlies, Buffalo Tom, Pavement, Alice Donut, Fugazi, The Chainsaw Kittens…and The Lemonheads.

Their cover of The Beatles’ “Mrs. Robinson” led me to their fifth album, “It’s a Shame About Ray” (1992) and their follow-up album “Come On Feel” in 1993 (both of which have been reissued in expanded 30th Anniversary Editions). They would become two of my favorite albums. They still are.

So when the band announce their “It’s a Shame About Come On Feel” 24-date US tour where they would play their respective 1992 and 1993 albums – with a two-night stop at my favorite live music venue, Le Poisson Rouge in NYC, I was all in.

So I flew into LaGuardia Airport from Fort Lauderdale on September 4th to catch their second show the following night (with my ladyfriend Serena and a photographer pass to boot thanks to the good folks at LPR). I was in good spirits, in good company and expecting nothing less than a live performance I’d never forget.

As for the show, it was “memorable”, to say the least. Those who were there know what I mean. I’ll just say that every now and then, singer/songwriter Evan Dando reminded us why those two albums are so wonderful. Every now and then. Nuff said.
