For the third year in a row, I was up early in the morning on a Saturday and on my way to the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport to photograph the 6th Annual Uptown 5K on the Runway, which benefits Trustbridge Hospice Foundation.

Trustbridge Hospice Foundation is committed to providing extraordinary care for everyone in the community, including those without insurance coverage or the ability to pay. They are dedicated to raising funds for the programs and services of Trustbridge including comfort care, charitable care, music therapy, pet therapy, adult and children’s bereavement services and children’s camps.

Uptown 5K on the Runway

Since 1978, Hospice of Palm Beach County, Hospice of Broward County and Hospice by the Sea have cared for 200,000 families in South Florida. These three hospices are now one branch of Trustbridge, a community nonprofit that provides support for families facing serious illness 24 hours a day.

You may have heard about hospice care in the past, but many people aren’t aware of what hospice care means. There are many misconceptions about hospice care and the hospice benefit. However, with Trustbridge becoming a client of mine two years ago, I have been fortunate to have met and interviewed hospice/palliative care providers as well as individuals who have benefited from Trustbridge’s services.

In the final weeks or months of one’s life, compassionate hospice/palliative care can make a world of difference in improving quality of life (what remains) and improving the dying process. Sounds strange, yes? But trust me, it matters.

I met Valerie Vitale, VP at Trustbridge Hospice Foundation, through our participation in the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. That relationship led to a working relationship with Trustbridge that has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in my 18 years in business. So despite me not being a morning person, I was happy to be there, camera in hand, for a great cause.
