After a week in Cancún for some dental work (photos forthcoming), I was back in chilly NYC earlier this week to catch Yukimi Nagano, vocalist for Swedish electro-synth band Little Dragon, play her very first solo show at a sold-out Le Poisson Rouge in NYC.

Born and raised in Gothenburg to a Japanese father, Yusuki Nagano, and her Swedish-American mother, Joanne Brown, Yukimi formed Little Dragon back in 1996, when she was in her first year in high school.

After seven studio albums with the band, she released her debut solo single, “Break Me Down,” (scroll down past the photos to listen) this past October put out simply under her first name, Yukimi. She also announced some solo U.S. shows featuring a full backing band to promote her upcoming (and as yet untitled) solo album in 2025.

The first stop on her first solo show? That’s right, Le Poisson Rouge in NYC. And what a show it was. Smooth, soulful, funky, dreamy – with some very personal songs thrown in that captivated the sold-out audience.

Yukimi is just getting started on her solo shows and based on the new songs she performed live this past Tuesday, her upcoming solo album is going to be すばらしい (that’s “amazing” in Japanese!).
Don’t miss her should she be coming to a city near you. Enjoy the photographs…
