Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t know a whole lot about Mexican punk rock outfit Molotov (or, to that degree, Latin Rock bands in general). My ladyfriend Serena, on the other hand, is quite familiar with them. In fact, she practically holds them in the same regard as the Sex Pistols due to their (sometimes controversial) mix of political satire and social criticism towards the Mexican government in their music. Moreover, she can gleefully sing along to many of the band’s raunchiest greatest hits. So, yeah, she’s a big fan.

And yeah, she wanted to go see the multiple Latin Grammy Award winning Molotov at the historic Miami Beach Bandshell this past Sunday night. And yeah, I gladly tagged along.

But despite my unfamiliarity with the band (Serena did give me a crash course on their most popular songs), catching a live show at the Miami Beach Bandshell is always a good thing (especially when the good folks there provide us with media passes to photograph the show). And with the band celebrating their 30th year, the place was packed and buzzing with excitement for these Mexican bad boys of punk rock music (you can read all about them HERE).

The band, who formed in Mexico City in 1995, feature Micky “Chicho” Huidobro on vocals/bass, Jay de la Cueva on guitar/vocals, Paco Ayala on bass/vocals, and Randy Ebright (the only US born member) on drums/vocals.

As for the show? “¡Estaba chingón!” And made even more chingón by the band’s rabid fanbase, who ranged from young teenagers to older folk – you know, like me. With access to the photographer’s pit in front of the stage denied by the band due to the monitors being placed there, Serena and I had to wade our way through a very accommodating crowd (even making it to the front row) to grab a few photographs.
