This past week, I took a long-overdue trip to NYC to spend some time with family/friends and to catch the legendary Robert Plant performing with his band Saving Grace at the cavernous Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the largest church in North America. The sold-out show was presented by the good folks at (Le) Poisson Rouge (aka LPR), a live music venue and multimedia art cabaret located on Bleecker Street in NYC’s West Village.

“Saving Grace“, released on 26 September 2025, was named after the band Plant has been performing with now for over six years, which includes singer Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson (Dian’s husband), guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown. This past Tuesday’s show marked the end of the band’s spring tour. They head to Latin America in May and back to Europe in June. For details, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour

Singer Suzi Dian

After Led Zeppelin dissolved in 1980, Plant continued to perform and record continuously on a variety of solo and group projects, scoring a top-ten hit single in 1984 with a cover version of Phil Phillips’ 1959 song “Sea of Love”, reaching 3× Platinum with his fourth solo studio album “Now and Zen” (1988), and nabbing a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2009 for “Raising Sand”, a collaboration with American bluegrass artist Alison Krauss.

The fourth ranked “Greatest Rock Lead Singers of All Time” by Billboard (2023) reminded the captivated crowd inside the Cathedral just how much he still has left in the tank (plenty!) – even performing several Led Zeppelin songs. Not to mention the group of highly talented musicians he’s surrounded himself with in Saving Grace. And then there’s the sweet voice of Suzi Dian.
