This is a continuing series of photographs from our Galicia Road Trip (with a few stops in Asturias) this past August.
This post is gonna be the shortest one in this whole series but this place deserves a mention. Cabo do Mundo Casa Rural is a refurbished dream house perched above the Miño River in a small, car-free village in the Ribeira Sacra, a stunning, steep-sloped wine region in inland Galicia. It’s where we stopped on our way down from our visit to the Mondoñedo Cathedral – just short of a two-hour drive.
In the Ribeira Sacra, monks and hermits settled at the dawn of Christianity to practice an ascetic life. Over time, these settlements gave rise to flourishing monasteries that spread art, culture, and material progress throughout Galicia. Hence the name Ribeira Sacra (“Sacred Riverbank”), which has been documented since the 12th century.

On this trip, I prioritized experiencing the natural beauty that Galicia has to offer and focusing on more rural lodging, and it really doesn’t get any more rural than this place. It’s totally off the beaten path, more than a fifteen minute drive to a restaurant or convenience store and deeply secluded withing Galicia’s green hills. It’s a classic “casa de piedra” that is common (and beloved) throughout Galicia.
Cabo do Mundo Casa Rural is a small house with only 6 rooms (we stood in the Godello room) and includes a simple buffet breakfast. It was just what we needed to take a breather (fresh clean air!) and recharge our batteries.
