I was back at the historic Miami Beach Bandshell this past weekend for the Cumbia Libre Summer Bash, a celebration of freedom, summer, and Latin music and culture – but it was much more. The event featured featured Bogota-based psych-cumbia group Romperayo Sound System; Miami-based collective Sonora Tukukuy; DJ Krishna; and Paz y Flora dance ensemble. And it was all for a very good cause…

Proceeds from the event were given to We Love Foundation, Inc., providing emergency relief in Venezuela after the devastating earthquakes a month ago. Moreover, the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) facility, located at 1850 NW 84th Avenue, Suite 100, in Doral, is currently serving as a collection center for supplies and donations that will be transported to Venezuela to assist those affected by the recent earthquake.

Good people making good music for a good cause. That’s a good thing.

Pazyflora

This is not the first time I’ve photographed Pazyflora, the fiery Miami-based Colombian folkloric and dance ensemble specializing in the traditional rhythms of the Colombian Caribbean. The first time I encountered them was at ZeyZey Miami and again this past May at the Bandshell. And as usual, they didn’t disappoint…
