So, after 17 days driving through Galicia, we (alas!) finally reached our last day. After altering our trip (due to the raging wildfires Galicia endured last year) and heading back to the coast in Pontevedra and stopping in the fishing village of Combarro, then onto the coastal town of Cambados, and spending our last afternoon walking through the city of Pontevedra – we were facing our last night in this beautiful region of Spain.
And as the sun began to set on our unforgettable journey, we decided there was only one way to spend the evening, especially being so close to the coast – watching the sunset. So we drove to Praia da Lanzada in nearby O Grove, a fishing village located within the Ría de Arousa that is famed as the seafood capital of Galicia (which is like saying the Bronx is the pizza capital of New York – there’s great pizza just about everywhere in NYC). I didn’t bring my “big boy” camera, just my Xiaomi 13 Ultra, my iPhone 16 Pro, and I had my DJI Osmo Action 6 in the car. We really just wanted to take it all in.
And the spirits of my Galician ancestors(?), the travel gods(?), the “meigas buenas”(?), maybe Saint James himself(?!) delivered a sunset we’ll never forget. I didn’t take many photographs, they wouldn’t do the sights any justice anyway. So I transformed into my alter ego Dan Perez Films and grabbed a few clips of video that better illustrate how our last night in Galicia went down…
And just like that, our time in Galicia had come to an end. Not entirely, however, as we still had to drive all the way back to Madrid the following day (and through the wildfires) to rest our heads for the night before flying back home, but it was technically the end. And as Serena and I sipped on a “shandy” at a bar on the lip of beautiful Praia da Lanzada, we realized we couldn’t have gotten a better send off…
