As anybody who follows my posts on this site should know, this past December, I embarked on an eight-city tour of Spain with my daughter. Our final city was Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain – where my mother was born and where we decided to spend our first Christmas without my wife Madelyn (she passed away in September of 2018). Upon my return back home returning home, I’ve been steadily posting photographs from the trip, particularly photographs from Santiago de Compostela.
So, a reporter from La Voz de Galicia, the highest circulation newspaper in Galicia, contacted me on twitter. She had seen all the photographs and had inquired about the purpose of my trip there. I told her my mother was born there and the reason why we decided to spend Christmas there. She told me she’d like to post a picture of me and my daughter in the paper and I agreed. So when I woke up last week, I was surprised to find I had several WhatsApp messages on my phone from various members of my family in Galicia (Spain is six hours ahead of US time). Why all the messages? Well, that reporter published the photograph AND a small article which highlighted the reason for our trip and the photographs I’d been posting.
Quite an honor to have my work recognized in the land where my mother was born and where there are so many people that we love. You can view the article online HERE. As for Galicia, we’ll be back again soon…
