The good folks at Flickr reached out to me last week to see if I would be interested in being featured in their “16 Questions about One Photo” blog series. This written interview format gives the featured photographer the opportunity to answer 16 questions about the process and story behind a particular photograph. With this being Hispanic Heritage Month, they also wanted to feature Hispanic photographers.
Now, I have a bit of a history with Flickr. A photograph I took of my wife standing beside her ailing father in a nursing home in Puerto Rico was named one of five winners (out of over 7000 submissions) in the 2018 Flickr “Your Best Shot” photograph competition. That photograph was taken a few months before she would pass away from a brain tumor; so that it was named a winner made what was already a very special photograph all the more special.
The story behind this particular photograph is also very special (supernatural, even!). It was taken in the “Pueblo Mágico” of Tlaquepaque, Mexico after I saw this adorable older couple walking arm in arm down the city’s bustling Calle Independencia. What happened after they sat down to rest on this bench is a moment I’ll never forget…
