Very happy to announce that four of my photographs were named official selections of the 3rd CAMPINA International Exhibition of Photography in Campina, Romania. The exhibition is open to amateur and professional photographers from all over the world and conforms to the rules of Photographic Society of America (PSA), Global Photographic Union (GPU) and Image Colleague Society (ICS). This exhibition is PSA approved and acceptances received by PSA members are eligible for PSA Star Ratings, listing in the worl-wide PSA Who’s Who of Photography and credited towards PSA Distinctions.
There were four categories to submit to: Color, Monochrome, Travel, Photojournalism and Nature. I had two photographs accepted in both the Monochrome and Photojournalism sections and the photographs, especially one in particular, are special ones for me.
{“Father and Daughter”} I snapped this photograph of my wife in the spring of 2018 as she was visiting her ailing father in a nursing home in Puerto Rico. My wife passed away in September of 2018 due to complications from the removal of a brain tumor. Needless to say, this photograph being selected meant a lot to me. Nuff said about that.
{“Hot Dog Vendor, Times Square”} Caught this fellow here going about his business on a street corner in Times Square. There was no joy in what he did, merely routine. A way to make a living, nothing more. There was a sort of sadness there that drew me to him.
One of my favorite places to snap photographs is at VACC Camp, a free week-long overnight camp hosted by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami for ventilation assisted children. It has become my favorite place to be for Spring Break during the past seven years; documenting this remarkable camp through video and photography. That said, two photographs I snapped at the camp were selected in this category.
{“Father and Daughter: VACC Camp”} This photograph was already an award-winner at the Ozone Zone International Photo Competition in the spring of 2018. Glad to see it has impacted jurors in yet another exhibition.
{“Mother and Son: VACC Camp”} This photographed was snapped in 2017 during “Pool Day” at VACC Camp. It’s probably my favorite day of the week-long camp and as these photographs clearly illustrate, it’s a special day for these special needs campers.
Very honored to have photography work that matters so much to me also matter to the distinguished jurors at this photography exhibition. At the very least, it lets me know that I’m on the right track in my photography work but it also reminds me (especially looking at all the remarkable images selected and awarded) that I still have a long way to go in this journey as a photographer.
